Arnie taught Conga drumming in Santa Cruz for 20 years and has also compiled a collection of 100 African, Afro Cuban and Haitian rhythms, copies of which can be purchased for $30 each. An instructional CD containing 6 primitive rhythms for 3-7 drums may also be purchased for $20 a copy on the Products page.

- During their last visit at Grandpa Arnie's the kids got a little drum lesson. Refusing to be left out, my dog Abraham kept time...sort of.
- Crazy Heart on Community TV's Idle Hands Show in Santa Cruz
- Crazy Heart was the first real clean and sober rock 'n roll band in Santa Cruz. It was founded by Arnie Clapman and Randi Swanson in 1993 and played nite clubs, fairs, motorcycle runs, tv shows and many other venues on the Central Coast of Cali. For 16 years Crazy Heart went through 3-4 incarnations, the final one being the band in this video. The band eventually broke up over creative differences. Randi and Peter went on to form "Night Train".

- We resolved to put together 4 sets of the greatest dance tunes of all time ranging from classic rock & roll, R & B, to Soul and Pop covers. My son Alex joined the band around 1995 and stuck around for about 5 years. It was a real thrill for me to have the experience of jamming with him and it will ever be one of my most treasured memories. Pretty good, wasn't he?

For the record, Randi was the primary songwriter in the group and penned many original songs, a few of which had clever lyrics and were very danceable. Though Randi and Gena were lead singers, Arnie was singing Twist and Shout behind the closing credits. Don't worry. He's not quitting his day job.

Avrami Finkelstein, a talented singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, joined Arnie for an impromptu one hour set of hebrew songs at the Weinberg House, an independent living facility for seniors in Pikesville MD.
