In this incarnation of the Baltimore-based band the personnel are as follows: Major Boyd - Alto Sax, Greg Hatza - Keyboards, Brian Kooken - Electric Guitar, Vance James - Drums, Dredd Scott - Lead Vocals, and yours truly on Congas.
It was on the eve of Passover 2011 when we performed this Shlomo Carlbach version of Adir Hu. A song traditionally sung at the end of the seder.
This is a long listen ( 29 minutes) so be forewarned. This hard to find album was recorded in 1971 by Abdul Hannan in the living room of his farmhouse in Cambridge MA. It was fueled by the post Viet Nam War angst of Abdul, an ex Green Beret, and the prodigious talent of the late David S. Ware in his debut outing as a premier tenor saxophonist. We all were into Avant Gard Jazz and this effort was as far out as we could go. My playing is purposely without structure and tempo. We were improvising and playing off of one another in the manner of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme". I realize that "Awareness" is a challenging listen but...it is what it is. For those who are into free style jazz, enjoy.
